QR code payments

UPI, PIX, EPC/SEPA, EMVCo and crypto payment codes, field by field, from the actual specs.

• A PIX QR code for a small business: the complete counter setupStatic key, EVP for privacy, code at 4 cm or larger, copia e cola underneath, your name matching the app. The whole PIX counter setup, at zero cost.
• A UPI QR code for a freelancerPut a UPI code with tr set to the invoice number on every invoice, so payments reconcile themselves. Personal vs merchant VPA, and the PDF workflow.
• A UPI QR code for a small shopGenerate a static code from your VPA with no amount, print it at 4 cm or larger on matt stock, put your business name in large text beside it, and check…
• A UPI QR code for donationsOpen amount, VPA registered in the organisation's name, name printed large, laminated standee. The donation-specific details that build donor trust.
• A UPI QR code for rent collectionFixed amount, tn naming the flat, tr changing monthly: a reference discipline that turns a year of rent into a self-reconciling statement.
• A UPI QR code with a fixed amountSet am in the upi://pay link and every scan pre-fills that exact amount, which the payer cannot edit. When to lock the price and when to leave it open.
• A UPI QR code without an amountOmit am and the payer types the amount: right for counters, tips and donations. The risk is the extra-zero typo, and there are cheap ways to blunt it.
• BharatQR, explainedIndia's multi-rail payment QR: EMVCo merchant-presented format, card networks plus UPI in one code, issued by your acquiring bank rather than generated.
• Crypto QR code safety: the address is the attack surfaceClipboard malware and overlay stickers swap crypto addresses, and transfers cannot be reversed. The verification ritual that protects every crypto QR payment.
• DuitNow QR in Malaysia: one code for every bank and walletDuitNow QR is Malaysia's national payment QR, operated by PayNet. One EMVCo-based code is payable from any participating Malaysian bank or e-wallet app.
• PayNow QR in Singapore: proxies, UEN codes and the SGQR stickerPayNow addresses a mobile number, NRIC/FIN or company UEN; SGQR bundles it with other schemes into the single unified sticker on Singaporean counters.
• PIX copia e cola: the copy-paste twin of the QR codePIX copia e cola is the same BR Code string as the QR, offered as text. It solves the one case a QR cannot: paying a code shown on your own phone.
• Printing a UPI QR standeeSizes that follow the 10:1 rule, A5 vs A4, matt lamination, dual UPI + BharatQR layouts, and a free PDF workflow from generator to print shop.
• PromptPay QR in Thailand: how the national payment code worksPromptPay is Thailand's national payment QR: EMVCo payloads addressing a phone, national ID or e-wallet proxy, readable by every Thai banking app.
• QR codes for invoices: match the code to the customer's railEPC for SEPA, PIX for Brazil, UPI for India, QR-bill for Switzerland, a payment link elsewhere. Scheme choice, reference discipline and placement for invoices.
• QR payment standards compared: UPI, PIX, EPC, EMVCoUPI uses its own upi:// deep link; PIX, PromptPay, QRIS, DuitNow and PayNow are all EMVCo tag-length-value profiles; EPC uses a twelve-line text block.…
• QRIS in Indonesia: the strongest case for one national QR standardSince January 2020 every payment QR in Indonesia must be QRIS. One code, every wallet and bank app, nationally set merchant fees: the unification story.
• Static vs dynamic PIX QR codes, which one your business needsStatic PIX codes carry your key and can be reused forever; dynamic ones are PSP-generated per transaction, expire, and confirm by webhook. How to choose.
• Static vs dynamic UPI QR codesA static UPI code omits the amount, so the customer types it: that is the printed shop standee, generated once and used forever. A dynamic code sets am…
• The EPC QR code format (GiroCode), line by lineAn EPC QR code is twelve lines of text in fixed order, starting with BCD and containing the beneficiary name, IBAN and optionally an amount. The whole…
• The merchant category code in a UPI QRThe mc parameter carries a four-digit ISO 18245 MCC. What it changes (limits, fee policy, app features), and why you should use the one your PSP assigned.
• The PIX QR code format: EMV BR Code explainedA PIX QR code is an EMVCo BR Code: tag-length-value fields ending in a CRC16/CCITT-FALSE checksum. The same string is also copia e cola, which people…
• The UPI QR code format, parameter by parameterA UPI QR code is a upi://pay deep link. pa (the VPA) and pn (payee name) are required; am, cu, tn, tr, mc and mode are optional. NPCI standardised it, so…
• UPI QR code limits and chargesWho sets UPI limits (NPCI, then your bank, then your app) what P2P and P2M typically cost, and why generating the code itself is free forever.
• UPI QR codes in Hindi and regional languagesThe payload is an ASCII URI and never needs translating: the payer's app does that. What to localise on the standee, with Devanagari CTA examples.
• UPI QR security and common scamsYou never scan to receive money. The scan-to-receive lie, collect-request abuse, fake refunds and overlay stickers, with merchant and customer checklists.
• UPI QR vs BharatQRUPI QR is a upi:// deep link on the UPI rail only. BharatQR is an EMVCo code from your acquiring bank that also takes cards. Which is which, in one table.
• UPI transaction references: tr and tntr is the machine reference that comes back in settlement; tn is the note the payer sees. The uniqueness discipline that makes UPI reconcile itself.
• VietQR in Vietnam: payment codes that address bank accounts directlyVietQR, operated by Napas, encodes a bank identifier and account number rather than a proxy: any Vietnamese banking app can credit any account instantly.
• WeChat Pay and Alipay QR codes: how China's closed loops workWeChat Pay and Alipay codes are proprietary app links, not open EMVCo payloads. How the duopoly's two scan modes work and what foreign visitors can do.
• EMVCo consumer-presented QR, when the customer shows the codeIn consumer-presented mode the payer's app displays a short-lived token QR and the merchant scans it. Why the reversed flow wins at high-throughput tills.
• EMVCo merchant-presented QR: the spec behind PIX, QRIS and PromptPayThe EMVCo MPM spec defines the TLV payload national payment QRs share: two-digit ids and lengths, templates 26-51 for scheme data, CRC16 in field 63.
• Girocode explained: Germany's name for the EPC QR codeGirocode is the German banking sector's brand for the EPC QR code. Same twelve-line SEPA payload, and it only works scanned from inside a banking app.
• Lightning invoice QR codes: BOLT11, LNURL and the uppercase trickLightning invoices are 200+ character bech32 strings nobody could type, which is why Lightning lives in QR codes. Encode them upper case to shrink the code.
• PIX key types, and which to use on a printed codeA PIX key can be a CPF, CNPJ, email, phone number or a random EVP UUID. For anything printed publicly, use a random EVP key: it works identically but…
• PIX vs UPI: the two giant instant-payment QR systems comparedPIX encodes an EMVCo TLV string with a CRC16; UPI encodes a upi:// deep link. Same instant, free, bank-led model: two opposite technical architectures.
• Putting an EPC QR code on an invoice: placement and workflowPrefill amount and reference, place the code beside the total, print the IBAN as text, and embed as vector in the PDF. The EPC invoice workflow that works.
• QR code tipping: open-amount codes done honestlyTipping QRs are open-amount payment codes on badges and counter stands. Rail choice, placement, wording, and being transparent about where tips go.
• QR codes on receipts: the post-purchase moment, printed at 203 dpiReview requests, digital copies, warranties and fiscal codes all compete for the receipt QR. What earns the space, and how to survive thermal printing.
• QR payments in Africa: mobile money first, QR as the overlayM-Pesa built Africa's payment rails on USSD before smartphones. Ghana's GhQR and Nigeria's NQR add national QR standards on top, but USSD still leads.

• Stripe Payment Link QR codes: card checkout on a posterA Stripe Payment Link is a hosted checkout URL; a QR of it turns print into a card checkout. When that beats a bank-rail QR, and the deactivation trap.
• The PIX CRC16 checksum, and why hand-edited codes always failPIX payloads end in a CRC16/CCITT-FALSE checksum over the whole string. Edit one character without recomputing it and every banking app rejects the code.
• The Swiss QR-bill: Switzerland's own payment code, not an EPC QRThe Swiss QR-bill replaced the orange and red payment slips in 2022. It prints at 46 x 46 mm with a Swiss cross and is incompatible with the EPC QR code.
• Venmo and Cash App QR codes: profile links, not payment standardsVenmo and Cash App QR codes are venmo.me and cash.app profile URLs. They only work when both sides use the same app: the opposite of UPI or PIX.
